Crochet Button Covers

Up

If you've ever wanted buttons that are a perfect match and compliment  your knitted masterpieces, try crochet button covers.  You might need to experiment a little to determine the exact size hook and how many strands of yarn to use.  The end result is usually well worth the effort.  You'll need a crochet hook--I usually use a size D--small amounts of matching yarn and flat, shankless buttons.  Because the buttons are covered, they don't need to match the color or your garment..

Chain 5.  Slip stitch in 1st chain to join.  Leave beginning end of thread hanging through center of ring.

Chain 1, work around without joining.  Work 10 single crochet in ring.

Work 2 single crochet in each single crochet around.

Work around twice more working single crochet in each single crochet around.

Slip stitch in next single crochet.  End off.  Leave 10" tail and pull beginning at center to tighten.

With yarn needle, run 10" tail through stitches at edge.  Insert any flat shankless button into "cup".  Pull tail to tighten.  Take several stitches to secure.  Sew button in place.
