Aligning the 3000A Motor Smoking Needles Machine Knitting, Rachelle D Moffett, © Copyright 2008, all rights reserved Click here for free, printer-friendly instructions If you have a Passap knitting machine with the Electra 3000A motor, at sometime or another it will "jump time" or get out of alignment. You can call your local dealer (if you have one!) to realign it for you or if you're a brave soul, like I am, you can realign it yourself. The only tools you'll need are a 5.5 mm socket wrench and a flashlight. Set knitting area to L20-R20. Connect motor to lock. Set for 1 color knitting only--color selection lever to the left. Run motor. Pay close attention to how far past 20 the lock goes. If the lock appears to only be off by a couple needles, leave well enough alone. If it travels 5 or more needles past 20 on either side of zero or "bangs" when changing colors, chances are it is out of alignment. Make a note of whether lock appears to travel too far to the left or right of 20 and approximately by how many needles. Remove the cap that is in the center of the motor unit. With the motor and lock still connected, move the left edge of the lock to 70R. Use the socket wrench to loosen the nut that is exposed from removing the cap. Only loosen the nut, DO NOT REMOVE! After loosening the nut, and with the wrench still on it, disengage the two gears inside the motor unit by carefully pushing the wrench away from you. Using the flashlight might enable you to see better. Now with the motor still connected to the lock, move the locks the approximate number of needles to the left or right as needed but in the opposite direction. For instance, if the lock seemed to travel 10 needles too far to the right, move the lock 10 needles to the left vice versa. Use the wrench to slide the gear teeth back into the interlocking position and retighten the nut. Do not over-tighten. Run the lock again, motor still engaged, to see if it travels within R and L 20. If not, repeat as necessary. Now set the machine to change colors every 2 rows--color selection lever to the right. There should be a noticeable difference in the amount of “banging” when doing 2 color work. It's really easy and once you try it you'll be glad you did.
